Made In Nepal: Saving Hand Made Artisanship
It started with 100 bowls, in the winter of 2014....In our modern environment, we are surrounded by perfect ninety degree angles, brightly lit screens and existing in a climate controlled temperature range that keeps us nice and cozy. And yet, none of these things exists in nature. You, despite being a human being, living in tall buildings and having access to the world of information at your fingertips, are a human animal. Nature's way is that we experience the perfection of imperfection. Items made by hand are representative of our true nature. They have much to teach us. Aside from creating opportunities for people to do the work of their ancestors for a fair age, we aim to preserve our human heritage through partnering with craftsmen and women whose hands touch each and every item we produce at The Ohm Store.
One of our partners in Nepal explained it best. In order to employ people in the hand-making of beautiful Nepali handicrafts, we have to pay them a fair and competitive wage. Going beyond this, we must provide them with regular and consistent work, so that they are able to count on these wages for them and their families to thrive over the long term. The Original Ohm bowl that more than 80,000 people have purchased over the last 4 years is what allows us to provide these on-going skilled craftsmen with jobs. Each cushion you receive is made of hand-sewn wool, which are made by stay-at-home moms who are able to work and take care of their children. We serve for the good our all, and believe that we can all win together.
Pure brass is super-heated, and poured into an iron forge to take on the shape of your future singing bowl. A foot pumped machine lathe is used to create the lines that rim your original ohm bowl, under the careful watch of the person making this bowl. Finally, the bowl is beaten, by hand to the final shape it will be before being carefully inspected and test for tonal quality. The bowl is then packed in thick bubble wrap to protect it's quality for the 7,000 mile journey from Nepal, to your doorstep.
3,000 Years Of Use History + 80,000 Original Ohm sold since 2015
As one of the most ancient energy tools, a singing bowl is the quintessential tools for meditation, stress reduction and energy healing. Keeping this "by hand" artisanship alive requires deep investment into the people and the communities that thrive off the creation of these bowls. Recognized by Oprah Magazine in 2019, and backed by our life-time "love it" guarantee, The Ohm Store is on a mission to support by hand artisans and empower people to connect more deeply to themselves, each other and the world around them.
